FAQ

Is pest control safe?

With Q Pest, the answer is yes. Pesticides approved for use in Australia must first pass a rigorous & lengthy approval process. The label specifies where the product can be used, on what pest & in what concentration. Q Pest selects the most effective, low toxicity products available & applies them in strict accordance with the product's label.

What should I do if I find termites?

Finding termites can be a confusing & shocking experience for the unsuspecting homeowner. However, once the reality sinks in, don't let curiosity get the better of you. Leave the situation as you have found it; if disturbed termites often move to a different area of the building to continue their destructive behaviour. In a sense, it is good that they have been found because now they can be dealt with. Leave it in the capable hands of the experts - Call Q Pest today.

What is involved in a termite inspection?

Termite inspections carried out by Q Pest are done so in accordance with Australian Standard 3660.2-2000. This involves inspecting accessible areas of the interior, roof space, subfloor (where applicable), & exterior of the building & also the yard area. We have also invested in modern detection tools such as Termatrac to use where appropriate. Following the inspection, a comprehensive written report, together with our recommendations for treatment and/or prevention measures is provided.

What areas does Q Pest service?

Q Pest provide residential & commercial pest control solutions from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, Beaudesert & Ipswich & all the suburbs in between.

How can I deter termites?

Firstly, you need to understand why termites come to your property and what are they looking for? Termites spend their life foraging for food, which is any product containing cellulose, e.g. timber, cardboard, paper. Where possible, eliminate products containing cellulose from your property or at the very least keep them as far away from buildings as possible, e.g. do not store firewood against or beneath the house. It is also important to have any dead trees or stumps on the property removed.

My house is on a concrete slab. Am I safe from termites?

No. It is not unusual for concrete slabs to crack & termites only need a small crack to gain entry to a building. Termites can also gain entry over the edge of a concrete slab, e.g. via garden beds or behind hot water system pipes going into the building. Termite prevention methods installed while your home was built are effective in theory but in practice it is common for other trades to inadvertently damage the system during the course of construction, rendering it ineffective.

What is a Termatrac unit?

The Termatrac T3i is a hand held, non-invasive tool designed to assist the inspector in the detection of termites. The Termatrac unit incorporates a thermal sensor, moisture sensor & termite detection radar to assist in detecting, locating and confirming the presence of termites. Q Pest are pleased to incorporate the Termatrac unit into our termite inspection process.

My home is only a couple of years old. Isn't it safe from termites?

No. All new homes are required to have some method of termite prevention installed during the construction phase. However, these systems can be damaged during construction &/or can be inadvertently bypassed once the home is built, e.g. by garden beds or stored goods. This is why, you will note on the builder's paperwork, that there is a recommendation to have the building inspected at least once a year, despite these measures being in place.

Does my home insurance cover me for termite attack and repairs?

Most, if not all, insurance policies specifically exclude structural damage caused by termites. It's a big worry considering Australia has the most destructive termites in the world & a recent CSIRO survey revealed that more than 1 in every 3 homes will be attacked by termites. Q Pest offer the TimberSecure insurance policy which will cover timber repairs or replacement, up to the value of $100,000. As with all insurance policies, conditions apply. Call Q Pest today for more informat.

Does Q Pest use Termidor?

Yes. Q Pest has very happily incorporated Termidor into our arsenal of weapons against termites. Termidor is a water-based, odourless, non-repellent termiticide (termite control product) which is applied as a continuous chemical soil zone around and under the home. It will not leach through soil and is not damaging to soil micro-organisms, earthworms and plants yet it offers long-term residual control & fast elimination of termite activity.
